Tim suffered a catastrophic injury. He is paralyzed from the neck down and will be confined to a wheelchair for the rest of his life. Tim's home has been modified to be accessible to him. The $6,500 raised by the First Annual Strides for Timmy funded some of the modifications and allowed Tim to return home from the Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital in Boston.
Tim has made improvements since his return home. Tim has a new computer which he uses with the help of voice recognition software. Although he cannot move his fingers, Tim has some mobility in his arms and has recently improved his ability to lift his wrists. Tim works in his physical therapy sessions to gain more control over his ability to make these small wrist movements. Even with Tim's dedication to his physical therapy, he has days that test his ability to remain optimistic. Tim continues to struggle with the medical complications of his paralysis. A major concern of Tim's is his lack of transportation which limits the amount of physical therapy and medical appointments he can make. Tim would also like to be able to spend more time outside of his home.
This year's Strides for Timmy will raise funds for a wheelchair accessible van to transport Tim to and from medical appointments and allow him to more easily leave his home. Currently, transportation is available to Tim on a very limited basis and with much expense. With your support and the support of local businesses we hope to be able to raise enough this year to get Tim a van.
